A practical checklist for supplement labels

The panels every label needs before it goes to print.

A label has to sell the product and meet regulatory requirements in the same small space. Use this checklist when reviewing proofs. Final label wording should be confirmed with a regulatory advisor.

Principal display panel

Product name, the statement of identity (for example, “Dietary Supplement”) and net quantity of contents.

Supplement Facts

Serving size, servings per container, each dietary ingredient with amount and % Daily Value where established.

Other ingredients and allergens

List non-dietary ingredients and declare major allergens clearly.

Business information

Name and place of business of the manufacturer, packer or distributor, plus a domestic contact for adverse event reports.

Claims and disclaimer

Have your regulatory advisor review any proposed claims and determine the applicable disclaimer requirements before approving the label. Do not use unapproved health or disease claims.
